"I highly recommend trying out Star Rowing Center on Lake Housatonic (Rt. 34 in Derby)! My son loves working with these coaches and kids and has really found a home in this sport. The coaches (former Olympic rowers) are caring and have the perfect combination of kindness and motivation..."

About the business

No Experience Needed – All Skill Levels Welcome!

Whether you're an adventurous beginner or just curious about rowing, Star Rowing’s Learn to Row program is the perfect way to dive in—no experience needed! Designed for newcomers, our program introduces athletes to the sport with a supportive curriculum that builds rowing technique, endurance, and power application in the boat. We focus on natural athletic development through bodyweight exercises that enhance coordination and strength without overwhelming beginners. With every session, rowers gain the confidence and skills needed to progress toward competitive levels. Whether you’re exploring a new passion or laying the groundwork for future competition, this is your starting point.

What To Expect

Expect laughter, splashes, and a whole lot of progress as you learn to row in a variety of boats—from solo sculls to team sweepers. With small group sizes and experienced coaches who know how to make training exciting, you'll pick up water safety, rowing basics, and fitness while soaking up the sun on the beautiful Housatonic River.

At Star, rowing isn’t just a skill—it’s the spark that ignites confidence, friendships, and a love for the water that lasts well beyond the summer.
